Bizarre Runout
Bizarre runout involving Runako Morton and Shivnaraine Chanderpaul in the West Indian First innings of the 3rd Test of New Zealand vs West Indies Test series 2006. Morton hits the ball to mid-on where Daniel Vettori fields and tumbles. Sensing a run Morton runs to the non striker end. Non striker Shivnaraine Chanderpaul initially takes a few steps and then goes back to the non striker end. Morton believes he is out and is furious at his captain and starts to walk off. However the Third Umpire views the footage and judges that Morton grounded his bat at the non striker end before Chanderpaul and hence he is safe. Chanderpaul makes the long walk off the field.

Wow I play baseball and even I would run on that. The ball is hit to the opposite side of the stumps that Chanderpaul is running to and the fielder had to dive for the ball. The slowest runner would have made it. I say that was pewr stof sieya.

@alicraig94 No, once you get to the other end, you’re fine if the other batsman left the crease at any point. So even if you try to get back, because the other guy left his crease, he will be given out.

LOL @ today (2nd Test Pak vs West Indies) Azhar Ali and Mohammed Salman did the same, but A-shocker de Silva didn’t change his uber-idiot decision, and Azhar Ali was out (he was in this video’s Runako Morton situation.)

morton may have reached the line first but look at 0:18, when morton got angry he raised his bat and stamp his feet so his bat was in the air and his both feet was out before the wicket keeper rip off the bails so its morton who should have been out

This is a wrong decision… clearly before the bails are broke, Morton picks his bat up (leaving the crease) and then slams his bat down again, where as chanderpaul stays in his crease, therefore chanderpaul is the batter who shouldnt have been given out…

Morton should have been out because he went out of the crease just before the stumps were broken. He smashed his bat on the pitch, but got out of the crease in the process. 0:23
