Uses of Barcode Labels
If you thought that barcodes were only used on products that are sold in store then think again. Barcodes are used for far more purposes today as they are able to carry and retain information that can be quickly and easily scanned in a relatively small space. So if you have never thought about the various uses of barcode labels here are some of the uses of them that could get you thinking.
Pricing of products – obviously this is the most well known use of barcode on labels and stores all over the world will use them on their products. When the barcodes on labels are passed over a scanner installed their price will be imported into the cash register without any need for the assistant to manually enter the price.
ID cards – many ID cards today will have barcode labels on them which can easily be scanned through a swipe card system.
These can be used to record employees clocking on and clocking off times as well as providing a relatively simple and straightforward security measure for buildings.
Documents – when various documents have been returned to government offices or other organizations may sometimes have barcode labels put onto them. These labels can be used to record the date and time that the documents were returned as well as information about the person who has completed them. So rather than having to search through files to see if documents have been returned a person can log into a computer system to see if they have been scanned in.
Tickets for events – these now often have barcode labels on them which identify them as being genuine. Tickets can be easily scanned when people are entering an event and this information can also be used to keep a tally of how many people are in a building.
